Pascal Juillerat MD

Pascal Juillerat first studied Biology (half-degree course) and then medicine at the universities of Neuchâtel, Basle and Lausanne, Switzerland, and obtained the Swiss Federal Diploma in Medicine in 2000, and USML step 1 and 2, after which he undertook internal medicine residency training in Nyon, Switzerland and at the University Hospital in Lausanne, Switzerland.

His interests in the clinical and epidemiological aspects of inflammatory bowel diseases (Crohn’s Disease and ulcerative colitis) led him to undertake a 1-year research placement in the Gastroenterology & Hepatology Unit at the University Hospital in Lausanne, Switzerland, under the direct supervision of Professor Pierre Michetti.

During this 1-year placement, he participated actively in several projects (evaluation of the use of infliximab in Switzerland in a cohort of 50 patients, retrospective identification of 1,000 IBD patients in the context of a cohort study in the Canton of Vaud, Switzerland, validation of an epidemiological questionnaire for the future Swiss IBD Cohort), notably the EPACT (European Panel on the Appropriateness of Crohn’s Disease Therapy) project, for which he performed an extensive literature search on the treatment of Crohn’s Disease (MedLine, Cochrane and several other databases) which formed the basis of the literature review provided to the EPACT panellists. He was also author or co-author of three chapters of this literature review.

He completed his IBD training on the ECCO (European Crohn’s and Colitis Organization) course in Dubrovnik, Croatia, in May 2004 and will resume his residency in gastroenterology at the beginning of 2006, after two 6-month placements, in digestive oncology and immunology, at the University Hospital in Lausanne, Switzerland.
